Music at SVLC
Crystal M. Mittermaier, Director

Shades Valley is blessed with an abundance of musical talent within our congregational family.   Since we want and need to use our musical talents and gifts to their full extent, we offer seven choirs for all ages.

SINGING CHOIRS
We offer a Children's Choir for ages three through second grade.  Children learn the basics of good singing (posture and breathing) as well as some of the fundamentals of reading music.  Youth Choir is for ages third grade and up. Good singing habits and fundamentals of music continue to be learned.  Adult Choir, for high school students and up, sings at fifty services each year plus special festival services.

RINGING CHOIRS
For first through third graders, we have a Children's Chime Choir where the basics of reading music are taught through using hand chimes.  Fourth through Sixth graders may choose to participate in Junior Bells.  Reading skills are refined and instruction on proper hand bell ringing is given.  The Youth Bells group is for seventh through twelfth grades.  Since most of the members of this group have progressed through "the system," reading and musical skills are very high.  Adult Bells is a group of like-minded individuals who would rather Praise God with their hands rather than their voices.

All groups, with the exception of the Adult Handbells, practice on Wednesday evenings during the Family Night.  The practices do not conflict with each other.  For example, a child who wishes to participate in both Children's Choir and Children's Chimes can easily do that as well as have time to eat.  Adult Handbells practice on Monday nights.
