Worship & Music Ministry

Shades Valley is blessed with an abundance of musical talent within our congregational family.   Since we want and need to use our musical talents and gifts to their full extent, we offer four choirs for all ages.

Singing Choirs

We offer a Children's Choir for kindergarten through fourth grade.  Children learn the basics of good singing (posture and breathing) as well as some of the fundamentals of reading music. The Children's Choir usually sings at Family Worship on the first Sunday of each month. The Sanctuary Choir, for high school students and beyond, sings at fifty 10:30 services each year plus special festival services. Repertoire for the Sanctuary Choir covers anthems from five centuries of a cappella singing as well as instrumental and organ accompanied literature.

Ringing Choirs

For second through sixth graders, we have a Junior Bell Choir where the basics of reading music are taught by using both handchimes and handbells. For this year (2009-2010,) the Youth and Adult Handbell Choirs have been combined into one group known as "Senior Bells."

All groups practice on Wednesday evenings during Family Night.  The singing and ringing choir practices do not conflict with each other and time is built into the schedule to allow everyone ample time to eat, as well.

Also, we have several extremely gifted instrumentalists and their musical gifts are utilized in worship services just about every week. Approximately 60 members of Shades Valley are involved with the music ministry.
